Creativity

Creativity

Growing up creativity has been one of my biggest assets.

I have perceived fashion as an art form and a way of expressing myself through different fabrics, textures and more.

When on stage my creative side takes flight while bringing to life the voices of the protagonists I have closely studied.

Creativity has instilled in me a sense of curiosity, encouraged me to ask questions and creative expression has given me a voice – one which is unique and true to “Mahima”.

Fashion

I took my vision for fashion to the next level by challenging myself at Parsons summer intensive programme in the Summer of 2023 where I styled and designed outfits of many different forms from skirts, dresses to shirts and many more. This experience showed me talents that remained hidden even from me and it unlocked a new side of Mahima and portrayed “who” I am as a person.

Curating mood boards, designs of outfits, styling diverse people is an experience that I will value always! This experience lent me an opportunity to work in a multicultural environment and was a melting pot of culture on many fronts. It was hard work in a very new environment and I had joined with no formal prior experience in Fashion or Retail. At our final exhibition where we had to present a compilation of our designs and creations, my work and work ethic was acknowledged by the professor which gave me an immense sense of accomplishment……and I successfully earned 3 college credits as well!

Theater

An early introduction to Theatre productions at Face Productions in Hong Kong opened a whole new world to me and I participated in numerous productions in varied roles. The productions included Chitty Chitty Bang, Bang, Into the Woods, Beauty and the Beast, My Fair Lady, Singing in the Rain, and Little Mermaid. We had the opportunity of participating in the Hong Kong Disneyland parade as well!

In my High school play – Mamma Mia I was able to live and breathe one of my favourite characters -Tanya! The role is one of a strong headed woman who faces life head on – “just my cup of tea!”, I remember thinking as I was cast in that role. I felt abundantly joyful and free whilst singing and dancing on stage.

I also gained valuable insights into aspects such as hair, makeup, staging, lighting, sound and set and props, which are integral parts of any production.

The experience was so very gratifying and magical.
